Dealing with Warranties After a Car Accident

 -

When you have been in a car accident, you know that there are a lot of things that you’re going to want to consider and keep an eye on in the process. That being said, have you taken the time to see what could be covered in your collision repair North Vancouver? What sorts of things are going to be covered in the warranty and how is the whole thing going to work for you once you get started with the process?

In short, a warranty is a promise by the manufacturer of a particular good that that good will work as needed and for the purpose expected. In the United States, we have what are called “extended warranties,” which can usually be purchased by the consumer in order to get repairs and other maintenance performed at no cost if the issues being repaired or maintained are due to regular and intended usage.

Let’s say I have a car, since that’s what most people get an extended warranty on. On that car, it has a standard warranty (comes with buying the car at no additional cost) of 12 months or 12,000 miles. This is a pretty normal warranty, even though they can go for as few as 3 months/3,000 miles or up to 18 months/18,000 miles. In my case, this covers everything but my tires- normal wear and tear, the engine, all of it. You may also have an extended warranty, depending on the car. When looking at a warranty, make sure that it’s not what’s called a “limited warranty,” that is, it only covers certain things and not others. Your collision specialist and your insurance agency will work with you to figure out what is covered by the warranty and what isn’t going to be.
